Visual Storytelling Masterclass, Malaysia

School of Narrative & Aesthetic (SNAP) is proud to offer this unique opportunity for any interested select group of early-career photographers to benefit from the advices and experiences accomplished professionals working at the zenith in their respective areas photographic fields in photography industry. The workshops offer an unprecedented and unparalleled opportunity to study photography to in an exceptionally high practice-driven environment level.

What to expect?
 

As the goal of these workshops is to help participants become accustomed to the fast turnaround times and often difficult conditions of shooting during an assignment, the backbone of these workshops will be a series of short photographic tasks that must be shot, edited, and presented to the group for critique within a short space of time. Therefore, even if participants have no prior experience working in the genres of photojournalism or travel photography, they are expected to have a fairly good basic technical understanding of photography.

For the first two days of the workshop, learnings will revolve around visual storytelling, photojournalism and documentary photography. The third day will be dedicated to travel and feature photography. 

 

Subjects covered include: how to approach news and features stories; effective narrative composition; shooting in sequence, visual/storytelling; establishing a relationship between the subject and his/her surroundings; developing a personal style; shooting, editing; researching and developing ideas for features stories; project development, etc.

How to apply?

 

Applicants should submit a portfolio of previous photographic work and will be selected on merit of both their achievements to date and their potential to develop as photographers in the future.

 

Requirements

 

Please send  a portfolio of 10 low resolution images with 1200px on the longer side at 72dpi. If you are submitting a story/series, please include a brief text introducing the project. Include a letter of intent, clearly stating why you wish to attend the workshop, and attach your curriculum vitae/bio. Text files should be submitted in pdf/docx format.

 

Upload all the above materials as a single zip archive to Wetransfer.com and send the link to team@letsnapit.com. When submitting, please include your full name and the words "Visual Storytelling Masterclass, Malaysia, Submissions" in the message.

 

Once accepted to the workshop, participants are responsible for bringing their own equipment and materials.

 

The deadline for submission is 1st Aug. 2018.
